The award consists of trophy (to keep), a certificate and recognition on the FAS website\/ newsletter.&nbsp; The winner will be announced at the AGM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominees must be members of a club or society affiliated to the FAS, who are not employed as professional astronomers. Nominations may be made by anyone who is a member of an FAS affiliated club\/society except the nominee or someone from the nominee\u2019s family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be eligible for the award, the nominee:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must be an amateur astronomer, defined as someone who does not derive their primary source of income from the field of astronomy and does not have a professional degree or advanced academic training in astronomy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must have made a demonstrable contribution that has served to advance amateur astronomy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples of such contribution(s) may be, but not limited to, the following;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Significant and varied and\/or novel outreach activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Significant observation discoveries (e.g. supernova, comets)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development of observation aids (hardware or software) which benefits the amateur community<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Submission<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Submissions should be sent to the FAS council <a href=\"mailto:gbaward@fedastro.org.uk\">gbaward@fedastro.org.uk<\/a> before the 15 August 2026 and must include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A completed submission form<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nominator letter of no more than 1000 words explaining in detail and providing evidence of the specific contributions and achievements of the nominee that merit the Award.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nominations can be made by any member of a club\/society affiliated to the FAS. The proposer and nominee do not have to be members of the same club\/society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Selection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All nominations will be reviewed by FAS council, who will then make the final decision regarding the recipient. The Award recipient will be announced at the AGM in the award year.
