{"id":1356,"date":"2019-02-04T14:48:48","date_gmt":"2019-02-04T14:48:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fedastro.org.uk\/fas\/?p=1356"},"modified":"2019-03-31T22:28:12","modified_gmt":"2019-03-31T22:28:12","slug":"iau-100-events-during-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fedastro.org.uk\/fas\/iau-100-events-during-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"IAU 100 Events during 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Centenary of the\u00a0INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION 1919 &#8211; 2019<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iau-100.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>IAU100 website\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inclusive-astronomy.org\/women-girls-in-astronomy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Women and Girls in Astronomy<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Women and Girls in Astronomy Day on February 11th, the IAU are encouraging events throughout 2019 to increase participation of women and girls in science.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iau-100.org\/dark-skies-for-all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Dark skies for all<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0The Dark Skies for All project aims to raise awareness of the preservation of quiet and dark skies. The project will address two fundamental areas &#8211; capitalising existing education programs on light pollution to reach out to students and forming a new IAU Dark Skies Ambassadors Network for public engagement on light pollution protection actions, including government lobbying actions, making the term \u201clight pollution\u201d a household term etc. In particular, the project will encourage the organization of worldwide activities around the UNESCO International Day of Light 16th May 2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iau-100.org\/amateur-astronomers-day-call\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>IAU Amateur Astronomy Day<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0 This event in Belgium will be hosted on 13 April 2019 at the <a href=\"https:\/\/visit.brussels\/en\/place\/The-palace-of-the-Academies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Palace of the Academies in Brussels<\/a> and we (the IAU) have been asked to get the information out to our amateur communities.
