Derby & District AS Celebrates 50 Years<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Derby & District Astronomical Society is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, and as part of this, we have invited Dr Allan Chapman to give a talk on John Flamsteed: Derby’s gift to Astronomy, and founder of the Greenwich Observatory<\/em>, at Derby Museum and Art Gallery at 2 pm on Saturday, 18th May 2024.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you probably know, Dr Chapman is a historian of science at Oxford University, and has presented the TV series Gods in the Sky<\/em> and Great Scientists<\/em>, and has appeared on the BBC’s Stargazing Live. Author of 16 books and numerous articles, he has also been a popular speaker at the annual Astrofest in London. He is arguably the world’s leading expert on John Flamsteed of Derby, England’s first Astronomer Royal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
