Why join the FAS?

By joining the Federation of Astronomical Societies, your society becomes part of a network of nearly 200 affiliated societies working together to support and promote amateur astronomy across the UK.

Membership provides practical benefits as well as the opportunity to share knowledge, experience and good practice with other societies.

Member benefits include:

  • Public Liability Insurance – Eligible societies can join the FAS group insurance scheme, providing affordable cover for meetings, observing sessions and outreach events.
  • Members’ Resource Centre – Why reinvent the wheel?
Member societies have access to a growing collection of templates, guidance and practical documents developed by the FAS. Whether you’re updating your constitution, reviewing policies or organising your society, we’ve already done much of the groundwork for you.
These resources are available exclusively to member societies through Membermojo.
  • Newsletter – Share your society’s news and keep up to date with activities from around the Federation.
  • Conventions – Members receive discounted admission to the annual FAS Convention.
  • Webinars – Join online talks and discussions on topics of interest to astronomy societies.
  • A network of societies – Share ideas, experience and good practice with nearly 200 affiliated societies.

If you’d like to know more about any of these benefits, please explore the rest of our website or get in touch—we’re always happy to help.
