Dr Jenifer Millard, known as Dr. Jen, is a science communicator specialising in astronomy. Her work as host of the Awesome Astronomy podcast and talent for sharing her passion, has rocketed her career into TV and radio.
As well as her work on the Awesome Astronomy podcast, She works as managing editor and article writer for Fifth Star Labs, the company behind the stargazing app Sky Guide. Alongside this, she continues to be a presenter on BBC’s Weatherman Walking series.
She co-organises Astrocamp, a bi-annual star party where amateur astronomers gather to observe the cosmos and participate in various activities.
In “A Waste of Space” she cuts to the heart of the argument often heard about space exploration – that it’s for too few, too expensive and there are too many problems on Earth that we should fix first. She shows why this reasoning is upside down and how the future of Earth, and the solutions to its problems, are very much found in space.
This talk was given at a TEDx event.
