The Talk: Space sustainability has become a growing environmental and economic concern – the UK government announced space sustainability as one of the major pillars of the National Space Strategy for the first time. But what does this mean in practice? This talk will explore some of the latest developments in the technology, policy and business development to tackle the issue of space debris and debris mitigation from the perspective of an international company on a mission to clean up space, one satellite at a time.

The Speaker: Andrea has been leading Astroscale’s Communications & Marketing for the last two years. Andrea works across the Technology, Business Development and Management teams to create a coherent strategy for how the business communicates about space sustainability and in-orbit servicing. Prior to Astroscale, Andrea worked for 7 years at Oxford University in Medical Sciences. Her work focussed on raising the profile of Oxford’s COVID-19 research results across treatment, vaccine, ethics and epidemiological modelling. Andrea also worked with Scientific Groups working on HIV, Malaria, Ebola and other tropical and infectious diseases. Andrea’s career has taken her to all corners of the globe to work in multi-stakeholder projects; she has lived and worked in India, France, Spain and the US. Andrea now enjoys less travel and more family life in Oxfordshire, though she never has enough time to enjoy stargazing.
