Derby & District AS Celebrates 50 Years

The Derby & District Astronomical Society is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, and as part of this, we have invited Dr Allan Chapman to give a talk on John Flamsteed: Derby’s gift to Astronomy, and founder of the Greenwich Observatory, at Derby Museum and Art Gallery at 2 pm on Saturday, 18th May 2024.

As you probably know, Dr Chapman is a historian of science at Oxford University, and has presented the TV series Gods in the Sky and Great Scientists, and has appeared on the BBC’s Stargazing Live. Author of 16 books and numerous articles, he has also been a popular speaker at the annual Astrofest in London. He is arguably the world’s leading expert on John Flamsteed of Derby, England’s first Astronomer Royal.
