The Royal Observatory Edinburgh has agreed to give one of its professional telescopes to FAS member society, Mid-Kent Astronomical Society . The 0.5m aperture telescope will be one of the largest in amateur hands; it was built to train students at Edinburgh University. However, the University are now upgrading their facilities and decided to give the scope away to the society that would make the best use of it. It will be sited at the Society’s James Irwin Observatory on the Canterbury Campus . For more information please see Mid-Kent’s website
